A life of discovery

Do you know what you spent on clothing in 2018?

I write down daily what I spend in my personal and business life. I don't judge myself or resolve to "do better" and I don't budget - rather, I have a spending plan that includes everything that I want or need to allocate money to. Some categories might only get a few dollars a week, some get more, but they are all represented, everything from the mortgage to a trip to Hawaii to the white silk shirt I've been lusting after. Even putting away $1 a week for something shows an intention - and it'…

Would your Style Icon wear it?

Here’s your question for today.

When you’re out shopping, or just staring at your current wardrobe, ask yourself – What would my style icon wear?

It’s one of the tips I suggest to clients once we’ve got their Style Statement created, but you can start asking yourself right now if you like.

One of my icons I have is Iris Apfel, though I imagine her as half her age (i.e. mine) and a minimalist. That may sound confusing, but for me it means outrageous clothes, just less of them.

If I’m deciding…

I'm interviewed by Erica Duran, freedom luxury lifestyle designer!

I love podcasts. I listen to them all the time while driving and on one of them, I found my business coach.

Her name is Erica Duran, and she describes herself as a Freedom Business Model Mentor & Coach, Digital Marketing Expert, Luxury Lifestyle Designer, and Minimalist.

Isn't that awesome? I chose her as I like her relaxed attitude, I aspire to be a minimalist (with an amazing wardrobe) and she lives in sunshine all year round - another goal of mine.

She has her own podcast and intervi…

Travel Coach Lisette Austin: Thrift your wardrobe while traveling!

I met an amazing woman recently, (mind you, women in general are amazing, so no surprise there) at The Riveter, a co-working space I belong to in Seattle. Her name is Lisette Austin, and besides all the wonderful work she does with the Suquamish Research & Strategic Development Dept / Suquamish Foundation ❤️ she is also a whiz at teaching you how to travel for next to nothing (her last flight to Portugal cost her $60) under the name Jet Set Lisette. Cool, right?

She’s also very stylish – we had a…

I told an 83-year-old to buy fishnets last week.

I told an 83-year-old to buy fishnets last week.

I was in Target (Tahhjay, darling) pondering some socks. Why is it that the ones that say they don’t show when you’re wearing sneakers always show?

While there, I overheard a woman saying, “Aren’t I too old for fishnets at 83?”

I looked over and saw a delightful elderly (for want of a better word) lady examining stockings/pantyhose with a salesperson.

Yes, I have boundary issues, which I promise you, I am working on, so naturally I interrupted…

Don't weight to feel wonderful!

Kia Ora,
I was consulting with a beautiful woman (we all are) and we discovered her unique Style Statement, which gave her clarity and confidence. She lit up as she realized her personal themes that she could incorporate into her wardrobe.
I then asked to see her wardrobe (this comes AFTER your Style Statement so that you can easily declutter and fine tune your current clothing) and we started identifying pieces that truly represented her.
Part of her visio…

My ponytail fell out at an Italian restaurant

I was having dinner with Maria, another kick-ass woman who started her own business with her husband and still works full time for a major company in Seattle, when my fake ponytail fell out, just missing the pizza.

I’d swung my head too enthusiastically and my long blonde hair had slid off. Too funny!

I laughed my head off, carried it back to the loo and attached it again.

The point of this? Outfit disasters happen, (I’m counting my hairpiece as part of my ensemble) and it’s OK.

Maria was th…

HALT - remember this before you shop!

Here’s an acronym that will save you a lot of “shopper’s remorse,” if you remember it before you hand over your cash!

It’s used by people in recovery from self-defeating behavior. No! I’m not saying you need therapy! (Though really, what could it hurt?)

I’m passing it on because I’ve found it really useful! It stands for:

Never shop HUNGRY as you’ll be depleted, you’ll have trouble making decisions and you’ll often be in a hurry to get out of there and grab…

Not Sure About That Outfit? Take a Photo

Kia Ora!

Not Sure About That Outfit? Take a photo instead of trusting what you see in the mirror.

I’m not a traditional stylist. To me, that conjures up images of intimidating well dressed and fashionable people telling you what to wear, in what combination and how to accessorize.

My role is to help women create their own individual style which empowers them to dress as their true selves. Saying that, I do love a good declutter. I spent last Tuesday with Shilpa, decluttering her wardrobe and …
